How I Teach

As a librarian, I showed simple and transparent ways people could find useful and credible information.

The work demanded sensitivity, open-mindedness, flexibility, and good listening skills.

I always felt uncomfortable with the word teacher to describe my work. I preferred "guide" or "coach." To empower a person to take charge of his or her own learning is paramount.

People I work with now will discover that learning is fluid, and two-way. A person takes charge of his or her learning by defining goals and objectives, and we begin there. We explore the individual's preferred ways of learning, but try different approaches.
